Income-Adjusted Rates

I offer various rates depending on the number of hours scheduled, group size, and socio-economic status. If you have any questions about my rates, please contact me. For more information about my income-based pricing, check out the SAI chart (5 SAI Tiers shown by color) or use the income calculator here. Prices listed are the maximum price charged per income level. Income between levels is scaled accordingly.

Teaching Methods & Expectations

As your tutor, my goal is to help you understand material and develop the tools to solve problems so that you will be prepared for your exams. I prefer to teach using the Socratic method and I like to have students walk me through their work before I begin correcting or explaining answers. I believe this method is the best for building students’ understanding of the material. However, I understand that each student has subjects they like and others they dislike or find particularly discouraging. It is inevitable that there will be some courses you are required to take which you may not care to invest much time in. For this reason, I am also willing to adopt a guiding role where I lead with solutions and answer your questions as needed. Please be aware that I will not take exams for you or with you so do not ask. That said, I am more than happy to go through exam reviews, quizzes, and homework with you.

I prefer to keep all of my tutoring sessions online for convenience; however, I am open to in-person meetings if you feel that will be better for you. Study sessions at home or a quiet coffee shop may provide a better environment for some. Please know, I charge the same hourly tutoring rate for my travel time to and from the meeting location.

I ask students have all the relevant material they want to cover ready for the session. I like students to send a copy of the material beforehand, so I have a chance to look at it ahead of our session. Ideally, students will also provide some notes on what they would like to cover in the tutoring session. This makes it easier to get right into the session.

Groups Sessions

In addition to 1-on-1 tutoring I offer group sessions with an additional fee per group member. The base rate will be determined by the SAI tier of the highest income student and the cost will be split according to student income level. Group sessions can be a more affordable option, especially for students taking the same course. Although I don't have a limit to the number of students per group, ideally the groups would be no larger than 6 people. That said, be mindful of the physical limitations for in-person group sessions and the logistics of working so many students.

Disadvantaged Students

It is important to recognize that students come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Not all students can afford personal tutoring while others will never feel the financial burden of this expense. Intergenerational wealth, family income, and past and present civil injustices are just a few inequalities that start students off at a disadvantage when it comes to prospects of higher education and breaking cycles of poverty. For this reason, I offer a limited number of sessions each week for economically disadvantaged students at discounted rates. In the spirit of fairness, I spread these sessions among as many students as possible. I will try to prioritize individual sessions with students but may tutor small groups if demand is high. If you or someone you know comes from an economically disadvantaged background, please contact me for details on pricing and eligibility. You can also check your eligibility here.
